A chutney made with peanuts and no coconut. Satisfying, tangy. Healthy to boot, with the fats and protein from nuts. Excellent with idli and dosa.

Milagai Podi For Idli/Dosai

Srilatha January 7, 2017Sides, South Indian Leave a Comment

Milagai podi, also known as dosai milagai podi, idli kaaram, or gun powder is an excellent side for idlis/dosais. It is typically mixed with oil/ghee and the idli/dosa is dipped in this powder and eaten. It tastes excellent mixed with yogurt, and made into a dip. Try it, and you may never miss the sambar or the chutney!

Raw Mango Pickle (Pachai Manga Oorugai)

Srilatha December 19, 2016Sides, South Indian Leave a Comment

Hands down, the easiest, quickest and the simplest mango pickle! South Indians all over the world love to eat this with a bowl of cool yogurt mixed with rice to cool off during the hot summer months. Instant pickle, although instant and pickle in the same sentence seem like an oxymoron!

A quick sambar for idlis/dosas, this literally gets done in the time it takes to steam the idlis! No spices to roast and grind, and most people will always have most of the ingredients in their kitchen.
